The youth of City Harvest Church are called to be one in Christ at the Youth Revival Meeting.
“Oneness” was the theme of the Youth Revival Meeting on Friday, March 1 at City Harvest’s Jurong West premise, which coincided with the weekly Friday all-night prayer meeting.
The meeting, which kicked off the March Mambo Emerge event, was led by deputy senior pastor Tan Ye Peng. Lifting his Bible up, Tan asked, “How many of you still own a Bible—not on an iPad, but like this?”
Right on cue, a few pages fell out of his well-worn Bible. The audience chuckled. It was a light-hearted start to the sharing of the Word that built on Jesus praying in John 17.
It was a message that focused on prayer and more importantly, how to pray. “A usual prayer list would look something like a shopping list,” said Tan. One would usually pray for good results, good health or even a good spiritual life, but Tan pointed out that Jesus began His prayer by asking God to empower Him to finish the task that was set before Him.
Sharing from John 17:21, Tan reiterated the importance of “oneness” in the church, that all believers may enjoy His grace together. He exhorted the youth to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, praying for God to empower them to finish the task that God has given them—to be fishers of men. “The nets won’t break!” declared Tan, as voices rose in prayer for the youth to step out as leaders and for great success in the upcoming Emerge events.
Training manager Simon Leong, 47, a father of two daughters in CHC, said, “I hope to see more young people step up in ministry, and as Pastor said, to see them really step out to do more for the kingdom of God and not just for themselves.”
By the end of the evening, the youth were buzzing with excitement. Lim Jia Hui, 20, said, “Pastor Tan’s message was really encouraging. It really motivated the members to really step out in faith to reach out to their friends.”
